My mother's mother was born over 100 years ago on 10/10/10. (My grandpa was born on 4/20 but that's neither here nor there.) So this weekend on 10/10/2010, we celebrated what would have been her 100th birthday in Minnesota...

That's what Minnesota looks like, for those of you who've never seen it.
My grandma had 4 kids... 3 sons and 1 daughter (my mama)...
...and all four of them gathered to wish my grandma a happy birthday! I decided to jump on a plane and join them, because DeBoer family reunions are a serious must. Not just because I love my family, but because I love my family's HOME COOKING. My mom and uncles SIRIOUSLY know how to cook. So, without further adieu, here is a quick DeBoer Culinary Photo Tour...
thyme from my mom's garden...
homemade rustic bread... complete with starter dough
one uncle had just returned from Greece, holy Ouzo...

chalupas for lunch...
to celebrate our heritage, a Dutch centerpiece...
set table...

orange carrot ginger soup...
roasted fall vegetables...
horseradish-glazed brisket and short ribs...
boterkoek...
Finally, no tour would be complete without an end, and here was mine...
Happy 10/10/10 Grandma! RIP
