Carmelitas

When I asked you what I should bake in my new oven, you had good ideas.  You are smart, brilliant people.  Especially you, Person Who Recommended These Carmelitas.  You are a damn genius!  You should quit your job, and become a Treat Email Recommender.  That's a real thing.  I'll pay you in Monopoly money and baked goods.  Speaking of paying people, my son got a dollar for unwrapping 32 caramel squares.  A dollar, and one caramel.  I bribe my kids.

Anyway, let me be very clear about this: MAKE THESE.  They are crack bars.  I even made a corner without chocolate for my friend who's allergic, and they were still wonderful.  Also, I bet you could make your own homemade salted caramel sauce instead of paying someone to unwrap 32 squares.  We're all geniuses!!

  1. AHHH! You made them! I told you, you wouldn't be disappointed. Seriously in my top 5 favorite desserts.
    Glad you liked them.

    P.S. I am a stay at home mom of 3 so I can't really quit my job...although some days I wish I could...at least for a few hours ;)

So...you weren't kidding about these. They were awesome! I doubled it and next time would use an edge pan since those were by far the best pieces. But I still think you should give the almond shortbread recipe a try :-)

  8. Thank you for posting this recipe. These bars were amazing! I ended up being short 2T of butter (how this happened I'm not sure) so I subbed in 2T of coconut oil. It added a nice, very subtle coconut taste. Next time I am going to sprinkle a little sea salt over the tops before baking. Thoughts on making these with browned butter? Thanks again!
