Tricks and Treats

11/1/10

Who feels sick this morning? Raise your hand. The best/worst thing about having a toddler is that you can eat all of his candy because he's too little for that junk. But not you, because you're big. B I G. At least that's how I feel after my dinner of candy and homemade treats.

On that note, yesterday I made Giada's Halloween Peppermint Patties and Pumpkin Cupcakes. Mostly great recipes, but here are a few tricks regarding these treats:

Patties... the dough is simple, consisting of powdered sugar, egg white product, peppermint extract and water. However, I needed to almost DOUBLE the amount of powdered sugar in the recipe to reach a consistency I could work with. I don't think I've ever had to change a recipe so drastically. What's up with that, Giada?

Don't worry, G, I still like you, because you taught me to put a teaspoon of vegetable oil in my melted chocolate to make it glisten...

Cupcakes... these were moist and the pumpkin flavor was delicious BUT, they deflated like a vandalized tire the second they came out of the oven. Again Giada, what gives?

I opted to use a store bought vanilla frosting (I'm not a fan of chocolate and pumpkin) and luckily, gobs and GOBS of icing covered up the gaping hole in the center of the cupcake.

Happy Princess Bride...

Hope you all had Happy Halloweens!

I loved the episode when Giada made those treats. I'm sorry your cupcakes had dents, but they still looked lovely!

P.S. I added you to my blogroll so I hope I can send you some traffic!
