Baking Bacon

3/19/13

How do you cook your bacon?  I usually let it sit over the stove on a low heat until it crisps, but over the weekend I baked it.  Baking sheet, aluminum foil, rack, cooking spray, bacon, 375, 20-30 minutes or until it crisps, I mean, REALLY crisps.  There is nothing worse than chewy bacon if you ask me.  I've also heard of cooking it in the microwave but I don't know how to do that, do you?  Learn me.

Put it on a microwave-safe plate on a paper towel. Put another paper towel on top and microwave for around 5 minutes for 5 pieces of bacon. Crisps quite nicely and so little work.

Love Bacon in the Oven - as Ina says its the ONLY way to make bacon. But when I have no time and I have a screaming 2 yr old on my leg yelling BBBBkin - I put in Microwave.
Paper Plate - on Top Paper Towel - put bacon - then another paper towel. I usually do 4 strips for 3 min?

Baking bacon is the only way to go in my opinion! We've been doing it that way for years, minus the baking rack. Just on a foiled baking sheet at 400 for 15 minutes or so, then drain and dab on a paper towel!

On a related note, Hormel has some peppered real bacon crumbles in the salad aisle....completely cooked and nice and peppery and fabulous in some scrambled eggs with some red pepper flakes, s&p, and fresh grated cheese of your choice. Simple, fast, and delicious! :)

I'm with Jackie! I follow America's Test Kitchen's recipe and that's pretty much it. Comes out perfect and doesn't leave a lingering smell as it does on the range.

to cook bacon in the oven, you don't need the rack - just one more thing to wash :( I cover the sheet pan with foil then fold a piece of parchment paper in half, putting the bacon between the parchment paper - it keeps the bacon from splattering in the oven. When done, remove parchment paper and foil and you have a clean sheet pan :)

America's Test Kitchen did a video cooking bacon in a skillet beginning by covering it with water first. I haven't tried it but it looks promising. Only 52 seconds long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2guC4Badq2s

Baking it is how I have always made bacon. Recently I baked mine on parchment paper for the first time and it was the best bacon I have ever made. For sure will be using the parchment every time I make Bacon from now on.

Speaking of parchment paper - have you ever used the Silpat? It's basically reusable parchment paper! We bake our bacon on the Deep Flexipat which is basically a Silpat with an edge to keep any grease from running over. We just recently discovered baking bacon and I don't think I will ever go back to frying it!
