Doughnuts!
I did it! As Dora The Explorer would say. I made doughnuts! Just look at that happy doughnut maker...
Why does my head look so big? Anyway. I did lots of research (thank you for your helpful comments) and decided to settle on an Alton Brown recipe via the lovely blog, Cupcakes and Cashmere. It is a yeast based recipe, which makes the doughnuts all light and fluffy. Ironically, I'm not a HUGE fan of doughnuts in general, but when I do indulge I prefer this kind to the old-fashioned cake-like treat.
Not going to lie... I was terrified of the frying part. But it was surprisingly easy!! And FAST. Alton lied to me when he said 1 minute per side because mine took maybe 20 seconds. Was slightly disappointed by the chocolate glaze, too thick, but the fried dough was superb. I made doughnut holes too and sprinkled them with cinnamon sugar.
